Definition Of Full Time Work
EDM number 105 in 1991-92, proposed by Alan Meale on 07/11/1991.
That this House is concerned about intentions to change from April 1992 the definition of full-time work for income support and family credit purposes, to the reduced level of 16 hours, from the present 24 hour level; believes that such a change will seriously affect many people, particularly owner occupiers who will be unable to claim income support for help with their mortgage interest; notes people without children who cannot claim family credit are also being adversely affected; believes such a move would act as a disincentive to part-time work for the unemployed who may use this route towards full employment; and therefore calls upon this Government to retain the present definition as the proposed change will cause serious hardship if enacted.
This motion has been signed by a total of 38 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
