Paris Commission 1991 Meeting
EDM number 965 in 1990-91, proposed by Simon Hughes on 14/06/1991.
That this House expresses serious concern that sub-seabed disposal of radioactive and other toxic waste, with access from land, is not controlled by any international convention; recognises if radioactivity leaches into the marine environment from sub-seabed disposal sites it could severely damage the ecosystem and devastate the fishing and fish-farming industries; and therefore urges Her Majesty's Government to support the proposal from Iceland, Norway and Denmark at the next meeting of the Paris Commission on 17th June to bring dumping of radioactive wastes under the seabed within the remit of the Commission.
This motion has been signed by a total of 11 MPs.
