Manufacturing And Export Credits
EDM number 930 in 1990-91, proposed by Alice Mahon on 06/06/1991.
That this House deplores the decision by the Export Credits Guarantee Department to withdraw its support to many countries; notes that the German Government is stepping up its cover and that the national credit insurer, Hermes, has agreed to underwrite ú3.04 billion of business with the Soviet Union; further notes that this willingness to take risks for the sake of long-term benefits to German industry is in direct contrast to this Government's policy where they appear to have no concern for, or pride in,the country's manufacturing base; and calls upon the Government to restore export credits to these countries thus opening the way for massive future potential consumer markets.
