Special Educational Needs

That this House is concerned about reports indicating that children with special educational needs have not had their needs assessed within a reasonable time-scale, and moreover, through lack of appropriate resources and provision, have not had these assessed special educational needs met; and therefore calls upon the Government to ensure that the requirements of the Education Act 1981 are fulfilled by the retention centrally of essential services such as educational psychology services and by directing resources as necessary for (i) the employment of additional educational psychologists, (ii) the employment of specialist teachers and other specialist professionals such as speech therapists and (iii) specialist educational provision, both within mainstream schools and in specialist educational settings.
