School Of Ocean Sciences, University Of Wales, Bangor
EDM number 903 in 1990-91, proposed by Ieuan Wyn Jones on 04/06/1991.
That this House expresses grave concern at the serious financial situation affecting the School of Ocean Sciences at the University of Wales, Bangor; notes the unique contribution made by the School in terms of resource exploration and in environmental monitoring in Wales; further notes that it is now the largest marine science establishment within the British university system and able to compete with the best in the world; condemns the Universities Funding Council's decision to withdraw the School's special support grant at the rate of ú50,000 a year and its failure to support the School's status as a leading research institution; and calls on the Council to reconsider its allocation of resources to enable the School to develop its outstanding record of achievement in the field of ocean sciences.
