Reduction Of Through Trains From Holyhead To Euston

EDM number 890 in 1990-91, proposed by Dafydd Wigley on 03/06/1991.

This this House condemns the proposals by British Rail to reduce the number of through trains from Holyhead to Euston in the autumn; declares that the replacement of through services by diesel units requiring changes at Crewe represents a marked deterioration which is unacceptable to industrialists and others who need a fast, efficient train service on which they can work in comfort, a feature totally lacking in diesel units; notes that the whole of the North Wales coast will suffer as a result of these changes; fears that this is the first step in running down the Holyhead-London train link as a step towards making the rail services more attractive for privatisation; and condemns the Secretary of State for Transport and the Secretary of State for Wales for sitting back and allowing such a deterioration in services to take place.
