THE PRIME MINISTER'S CALL FOR CONSTITUTIONAL REFERENDA

EDM number 89 in 1990-91, proposed by Alex Salmond on 19/11/1990.

That this House notes the Prime Minister's commitment to the concept of a referendum on European Monetary Union and the introduction of a single European currency expressed in newspaper interviews, that she has claimed that the issue is of crucial constitutional importance; that the people of Scotland who have rejected her Government in three general elections consider the future of Scotland of equal importance; and calls for a three-way referendum placing no constitutional change against the Convention devolution plan against Scottish independence in the European Community offering the people of Scotland a free choice on their future.
