Rolls Royce Redundancies
EDM number 883 in 1990-91, proposed by Joyce Quin on 22/05/1991.
That this House expresses its disgust and concern at the decisions of Rolls-Royce plc to declare a total of over 6,000 redundancies at its sites, to close the Leavesden site despite all the assurances made at the time of privatisation, to impose a six-month wage freeze and to terminate existing contracts of employment without notice or negotiation; pledges its full support to the campaign that has been launched to rescue the Leavesden site, including the total ban on the movement of work from Leavesden to other sites; recognises that balloting procedures are beginning for industrial action to oppose compulsory redundancies; and urges the company to withdraw their threats and urgently to meet workers' representatives.
This motion has been signed by a total of 50 MPs.
