Local Authority Lobby On Textiles

That this House welcomes councillors and officers from local authorities throughout Britain lobbying the House on 21st and 22nd November on behalf of the textile and clothing industries; notes the local authorities represented include Kirklees, Bolton, Rochdale, Leeds, Wolverhampton, Glasgow, Bradford, Nottingham, Bury, Birmingham, Sandwell, Walsall and Coventry; and further notes the lobby will be highlighting the importance of the textile and clothing industries to their local economies and the threat of further job losses and mill closures unless satisfactory safeguards are negotiated under GATT and adequate transitional arrangements made for phasing out the Multi-Fibre Arrangement.
