Armed Forces Pension Scheme
EDM number 876 in 1990-91, proposed by Eric Illsley on 22/05/1991.
That this House recalls the special arrangements made by the Government to increase benefits to pre-1973 war widows; notes that beneficiaries of the armed forces pension scheme who were invalided from the service prior to 1973 do not benefit from the improvements made to that scheme introduced in 1973 in the same way that pre-1973 war widows did not benefit until recently; and therefore calls upon the Government to take immediate action to remedy this situation and upgrade armed forces pension payments to those former servicemen who left the services prior to 1973, particularly those who were invalided from the services, such as Mr Leonard Pell of Barnsley who suffered 70 per cent. disability in the service of his country.
