Opposition To The Closure Of The Caledonia Mills, leith
EDM number 848 in 1990-91, proposed by Ron Brown on 16/05/1991.
That this House opposes the closure of Rank Hovis's Caledonia Mills, Leith; recognises that many jobs will be lost to the local community, as well as affecting suppliers and sub-contractors; notes that management say the main reason for their decision is an alleged surplus of flour; yet realises that many people in Britain are under-nourished and millions starve throughout the world because they are denied basic foods; and calls on the next Labour government to bring United Kingdom food monopolies into public ownership under the democratic control of employees and consumers.
This motion has been signed by a total of 30 MPs.
