Empire Theatre, Sunderland
EDM number 842 in 1990-91, proposed by Roland Boyes on 15/05/1991.
That this House condemns the recent unprovoked attack on the Empire Theatre in Sunderland by The Times and Daily Express; believes that their obvious ignorance of the theatre and the region in general led them to make remarks that are deeply offensive; believes that the Empire Theatre is one of the most attractive and finest in the country and that it has a strong management team led by Colin Angus; understands that the theatre has a programme to satisfy a range of interests including plays, pop, classical and ballet; notes that Rudolf Nureyev started his farewell tour at the Empire Theatre; and calls for the offensive remarks to be withdrawn.
This motion has been signed by a total of 18 MPs.
