De-Activation Of Greenham Common

EDM number 832 in 1990-91, proposed by David Mitchell on 14/05/1991.

That this House warmly congratulates the Government on the success of its twin-track policy in relation to intermediate range nuclear missiles, enunciated in the 1980's which has resulted in the signing of the INF treaty, the withdrawal and destruction of the Soviet SS20 missiles, the remainder of which are to be broken up during the week of 12th May 1991, the withdrawal of all Cruise missiles from N.A.T.O. countries, the last flight of which left Greenham Common on 5th March 1991 and the return to the United States of America of the Pershing II missiles; welcomes these historic first steps in reducing the likelihood of nuclear war which have led to a lowering of tension across Europe; and pledges its support for other multi-lateral measures of arms reductions.
