KING'S HEAD THEATRE
EDM number 829 in 1990-91, proposed by Chris Smith on 13/05/1991.
That this House notes that the King's Head Theatre in Upper Street, Islington, has consistently produced award-winning plays of high quality, many of which have transferred to the West End and which have returned large sums for the Exchequer through value-added tax; recognises that the King's Head Theatre provides important educational placements and opportunities for disadvantaged groups such as deaf people, for which it has the endorsement of the Royal National Institute for the Deaf; welcomes the campaign launched by Maureen Lipman, Tom Conti, Tom Stoppard and others to save the theatre; notes that the funding crisis of the London Boroughs Grants Committee precipitated withdrawal of grant funding; urges the London Borough Grants Committee to restore its grants if at all possible; and also asks the Minister for the Arts to provide Government support to ensure that the theatre can continue to undertake its pioneering, innovative and successful production programme.
This motion has been signed by a total of 29 MPs.
