Conduct Of The Rt Hon Member For Henley

EDM number 82 in 1990-91, proposed by Harry Barnes on 15/11/1990.

That this House notes with concern that the Right honourable Member for Henley, whilst a back-bencher without the burdens of office, only exercised his vote in 121 out of 409 divisions in this House during the last Session for which figures are readily available, i.e. 1988-89, and that in that time he did not once vote against the advice of the Government whips, despite there being 81 divisions in which dissident Conservative votes were exercised; further notes that 586 of his fellow parliamentarians bettered his 29.58 per cent. voting record; and, given his lack of dissent, believes that the current leadership election is about style not substance.
