EDM number 818 in 1990-91, proposed by Stephen Day on 09/05/1991.

That this House regrets that the Civil Aviation Authority and the Department of Transport have rejected the Transport Committee's recommendation for the mandatory provision of smoke hoods in passenger aircraft; notes that since 1985 there has been a substantial number of fatalities in accidents involving aviation fire; and calls upon the Secretary of State for Transport to conduct an urgent review to ensure that air passengers are afforded effective protection from toxic fumes in the event of an in flight or ground fire aboard an aircraft.
