Tesco Stores Ltd Planning Applications In Sheffield

That this House calls on Tesco Stores Ltd. to withdraw its planning application 90/1323 and 90/1324 to build a 90,000 square feet superstore plus a 5,000 square feet restaurant on the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive Sportsground, Meadowhead, Sheffield, in the light of the massive public opposition to the proposals consisting of 8,567 names on petitions and individual letters now lodged with Sheffield City Council Planning Department, as well as oppositon from Sheffield Chamber of Trade, the local traders' association, local councillors, local action groups and environmental groups; and further calls on Tesco Stores Ltd. to put the concerns of the constituents of the honourable Member for Sheffield, Heeley and the protection of this historical open space as a first and only priority.
