Policies Of The Right Honourable Member For Henley And Of The Honourable Member For Banff And Buchan

EDM number 80 in 1990-91, proposed by Maria Fyfe on 15/11/1990.

That this House calls on the Right honourable Member for Henley to explain why he voted to impose the immoral and unfair poll tax, un-amended, on the Scottish people, but rebelled over the poll tax legislation for England and Wales; does not believe that many people in Scotland support the honourable Member for Banff and Buchan's view that the injustices of the poll tax should be imposed a day longer than can be helped on any part of Great Britain; notes that the honourable Member for Banff and Buchan wishes to punish the victims of the poll tax in England and Wales for the acts of the Tory Government, and therefore questions the policies of the honourable Member and the party he leads; and notes that the forthcoming Labour victories in Paisley North and Paisley South will keep up the pressure for the Labour victory in the General Election, to be followed by the abolition of the poll tax within its first year of office, the only sure way to achieve this objective.
