British Rail Beards

EDM number 795 in 1990-91, proposed by Alex Carlile on 02/05/1991.

That this House believes that the proposed new rules preventing British Rail employees from wearing facial hair are silly and unnecessary, that they are likely to create tension between management and staff, that they infringe individual liberty, that they discriminate against men and that facial hair does not offend the customer; and further believes that the British Railways Board would be better occupied in providing a reasonable rail service than in dreaming up pettifogging rules which even Mr Pooter would have considered absurd.

This motion has been signed by a total of 20 MPs.
