Turkish Treatment Of Kurdish Refugees

EDM number 789 in 1990-91, proposed by Dafydd Elis Thomas on 01/05/1991.

That this House condemns the refusal of Turkish authorities to give medical teams of Medecins Sans Frontieres permission to operate in a Kurdish refugee camp and the discriminatory treatment of Kurdish refugees by Turkish authorities; calls with the utmost urgency upon the Government to exercise its influence on Turkey to place Kurdish refugee camps under supervision of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and to grant Kurdish refugees full refugee status in accordance with Article 1 of the 1951 Geneva Convention and the Protocol on Refugees of 1967; and furthermore calls on the Government to exercise its influence on the Turkish Government to launch a full investigation into reports of theft of emergency supplies by Turkish soldiers from refugee camps.
