Coalfield Communities Campaign
EDM number 77 in 1990-91, proposed by Alan Meale on 15/11/1990.
That this House congratulates the Coalfield Communities Campaign and the Metropolitan Councils of Wakefield and Barnsley for their publication of the report When the Pit Closes, written by Dr Stephen Witt, which examined the work, unemployment and training experiences of redundant mineworkers following colliery closures, proving beyond any reasonable doubt that the current training strategy of British Coal Enterprises is too narrow and restrictive and, unless changed, threatens to seriously hamper the efforts of local authorities and other agencies in coalfield areas to revive their economies.
