Poll Tax In Britain
EDM number 757 in 1990-91, proposed by Ron Brown on 25/04/1991.
That this House notes that Tam (Sean) Connery, the Edinburgh-born actor, is Scotland's most famous non-payer of the iniquitous poll tax; recognises that Edinburgh District Council will shortly honour him with the Freedom of the City; and agrees with Councillor Charles Gray, Leader of Strathclyde Regional Council, that there should be an amnesty for non-payers, especially as those on low incomes are unable to pay the levy and have suffered most as a result of discredited Tory policies since 1979.
This motion has been signed by a total of 25 MPs, 3 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
