Export Credit Guarantee Grant For Glasgow And The Business Community

EDM number 754 in 1990-91, proposed by Jimmy Wray on 25/04/1991.

That this House congratulates Glasgow District Council, the business community and workers for their efforts to forge close trading links with Soviet counterparts; sees the linking of Glasgow with Rostov-on-the Don as an expression of the will of Scottish and Soviet people to expand their economic co-operation for mutual benefit; is aware that companies such as John Brown Engineers, Howden and the Weir Group have committed themselves to this project in the full knowledge of the initial difficulties posed by the present situation in the Soviet Union, knowing also that the prospects for the future are excellent and that they cannot wait while other competitors and countries try to occupy the Soviet market for themselves; firmly believes that this is exactly the type of project the Export Credits Guarantee Department must help; and urges Her Majesty's Government to show decisiveness and vision for the future by giving Glasgow District Council, the business community and workers the support they now need.

This motion has been signed by a total of 12 MPs.
