National Museum Of Photography, Film And Television In Bradford
EDM number 723 in 1990-91, proposed by Austin Mitchell on 18/04/1991.
That this House congratulates the National Museum in Photography, Film and Television in Bradford on taking a major museum out of London and into the regions and turning it into Britain's most successful museum, winning the Museum of the Year Award in 1988 and coming runner-up and honourably commended for its exceptional degree of responsibility to the community in the European Museum of the Year award in 1990; looks forward to its five millionth visitor in 1991, the highest attendance of any museum outside London with the museum looking forward to the development of the Library Cinema, due to open in 1992, offering a rich and varied programme to the people of Bradford, Yorkshire, and the United Kingdom generally for 52 weeks of the year, and advancing still further the centre of excellence in entertainment and information which the museum has brought to Bradford and Yorkshire more generally; particularly welcomes the fact that all this is being done by bringing facilities, diversity, skills and quality to the North instead of the cultural imperialism of forcing people from the North to travel to London; and believes such decentralisation of excellence is the best hallmark of a truly national institution.
This motion has been signed by a total of 33 MPs.
