LIFT PROBLEM FOR COVENTRY'S DISABLED AND ELDERLY CITIZENS
EDM number 72 in 1990-91, proposed by Alan Meale on 14/11/1990.
That this House wishes to put on record its condemnation of the lift refurbishment programme of the Coventry City Council Housing Department and its uncaring incarceration of the disabled and elderly tenants of the flats in the Samuel Hayward and the Joseph Latham Houses for a period of seven weeks; questions whether council officers and councillors would accept being imprisoned in their homes for that period; recognises, ironically, that if the Council is allowed to pursue its present arrangement at the completion of the refurbishment programme it will leave the disabled and elderly tenants such as Mr & Mrs Griffiths of 7 Samuel Hayward House three shopping days to Christmas; and in the circumstances, calls for the cessation of the work until arrangements are made to install a temporary lift facility, and only then to recommence the lift refurbishment work.
