Tribute To Wat Tyler And The Reverend John Ball
EDM number 680 in 1990-91, proposed by Tony Benn on 27/03/1991.
That this House wishes to place on record its deep appreciation for the inspired leadership offered by Wat Tyler and the Reverend John Ball who led the peasants revolt against the poll tax in 1381, and whose example inspired those who successfully campaigned to defeat the second attempt to impose a poll tax in 1991; and hopes that all future governments will learn the lessons of those two revolts namely that the interests of the people cannot be trampled on with impunity.
