Coal Reserves
EDM number 632 in 1990-91, proposed by Malcolm Bruce on 21/03/1991.
That this House condemns the successive acts of vandalism by British Coal in not only failing to protect existing United Kingdom coal reserves, but pursuing a policy of closure which leads to the destruction of substantial potentially valuable future reserves; and calls upon Her Majesty's Government to amend existing legislation either to transfer the ownership of the coal reserves to the Department of Energy, or to put an obligation on British Coal to protect coal reserves, and impose penalties for their destruction without the approval of the Secretary of State.
This motion has been signed by a total of 33 MPs.
