British Pregnancy Advisory Service And Virgin Births

EDM number 594 in 1990-91, proposed by Ann Winterton on 12/03/1991.

That this House is appalled at the provision of artificial insemination for virgin women, especially by the British Pregnancy Advisory Service, Britain's largest private abortion agency; believes it shows the utmost hypocrisy for this organisation artificially to provide children for unsuitable women, while at the same time, and in the same clinics destroying human life through abortion; feels that the involvement of BPAS in abortion shows that it can never put the best interests of any child first; believes that this process reduces women to the role of breeding cattle, and children to the status of commodities to be bought and sold; and further believes that virgin births have enormous implications for social policy with the state being expected to foot the bill to bring these children up; also believes that such practice is incompatible with the basic tenets of Christianity; and urgently calls on the Government to end this abhorrent, immoral, and unnatural practice immediately.
