Poll Tax In Wales

EDM number 587 in 1990-91, proposed by Barry Jones on 11/03/1991.

That this House regrets the great damage done to local government finance in Wales as a result of the farcical situation over the poll tax in the Principality, where the Secretary of State for Wales, who was responsible for this tax in the first place, is now desperately trying to dump it; notes that the overwhelming majority of the Welsh people have always been, and still are, deeply opposed to the poll tax; further notes that millions of pounds have been wasted on administering a tax which seems now to be doomed; rejects a combined bedroom and poll tax; and calls upon the Government to abolish the poll tax and replace it with a fair rating system.

This motion has been signed by a total of 28 MPs.
