TOBACCO ADVERTISING IN WOMEN'S MAGAZINES
EDM number 586 in 1990-91, proposed by Joan Lestor on 11/03/1991.
That this House notes with regret the findings of a study published in The Lancet on 12th January showing that a collective readership of seven million women aged between 15 and 24 years are exposed to cigarette advertising, despite the aim of voluntary restrictions negotiated with the tobacco industry to protect young women from being targetted by the cigarette companies; and calls upon the editors and publishers of magazines aimed primarily at women to stop advertising tobacco immediately in their magazines.
