Visit By Families Against Intimidation And Terror
EDM number 559 in 1990-91, proposed by Harry Barnes on 04/03/1991.
That this House warmly welcomes the visit to Parliament of members of the non-party political and non-sectarian group, Families against Intimidation and Terror (Fait); praises their determination to highlight the unjust and barbaric punishment shootings and other forms of intimidation carried out by paramilitary groupings from both sides of the sectarian divide in Northern Ireland; recognises that there have been nearly 2,000 reported punishment shootings in the last two decades; notes that this figure may be the tip of the iceberg and that up to 90 per cent, of the human rights abuses in Northern Ireland are carried out by paramilitary groups; and further notes that members of Fait will be meeting honourable Members and others interested in peace and justice in Northern Ireland on 5th March at 7 p.m. in Committee Room 14.
