Inflation Changes In Social Security Benefits
EDM number 548 in 1990-91, proposed by Paul Flynn on 28/02/1991.
That this House warmly welcomes the announcement of the inflation increase in the award to families of vaccine-damaged children; notes that only four or five awards are made each year; regrets that the ú1, 000 widows' payment has remained frozen for nearly six years, the ú500 limit for Social Fund payments has been frozen for most people since 1983, the capital disregard of ú3,000 has been frozen since 1983 and child benefit increases are less than annual inflation for families with more than one child and for all lone parents not receiving means-tested benefits; and observes that these frozen figures apply to more than four or five families a year.
