Taylorplan Services Ltd (3)
EDM number 546 in 1990-91, proposed by Max Madden on 27/02/1991.
That this House notes with concern that Bradford Hospitals National Health Service Trust has awarded a contract worth over ú1 million per year to Taylorplan Services Ltd. for catering services; notes Peter Waites of the Bradford Trust, commenting on the contract, looked forward "to a good working relationship with Taylorplan which will be reflected in the quality of meals provided to our patients and staff"; hopes Taylorplan are better at catering than cleaning, as when they obtained a contract for cleaning Airedale General Hospital in 1987, 450 complaints were received in the first four months; is dismayed that catering staff at BRI and St. Luke's will be made redundant unless they accept the poor pay and conditions of other Taylorplan employees; recalls in February 1988 Taylorplan were not awarded a cleaning contract at St. George's Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital despite submitting the lowest tender and that, after a technical evaluation by Price Waterhouse, North Lincolnshire District Health Authority decided to keep the work in-house because Taylorplan's planned hours were insufficient to do the job properly; suggests it would be prudent for Bradford Hospitals National Health Service Trust to conduct an immediate and comprehensive review of the contract awarded to Taylorplan and for that review to be speedily published; and calls for that review to give full details of the current financial position of Taylorplan and of the contract specification submitted by Taylorplan and instances where Taylorplan has withdrawn from contracts if performing to specification makes them unprofitable.
