The Tory Party And Saddam Hussein
EDM number 533 in 1990-91, proposed by Chris Mullin on 25/02/1991.
That this House notes that only one of the 31 Early Day Motions tabled between 1983 and the invasion of Kuwait on 2nd August 1990 critical of the Iraqi regime and those who helped Saddam Hussein build his war machine was tabled by a Tory; further notes that some foolish Tories appear not to have heeded the assurance by their leaders that the Conservative Party will not seek to exploit the Gulf War for party political purposes; and warns that, if this continues, those who were alive to the barbaric nature of the Iraqi regime well before 2nd August 1990 will make sure that details of the long love affair between Tory businessmen, ministers and the regime of Saddam Hussein are laid before the nation in good time to become an issue at the general election.
This motion has been signed by a total of 34 MPs.
