Nhs Beds For The Mentally Ill
EDM number 517 in 1990-91, proposed by Alan Meale on 21/02/1991.
That this House is alarmed by recent reports given by the National Schizophrenia Fellowship which show that there has been a rapid reduction of the number of beds available in the National Health Service for those who are suffering from mental illness, a factor proved by the Minister of Health's statement of 30th November 1990 which gave the current level of beds available as 37,350, which represents a reduction of 25,650 beds since 1989; recognises that the provision for community care is not advancing at anything like this rate; and is therefore concerned that more and more sick people are drifting into inadequate care and in some cases into homelessness because of government policies.
This motion has been signed by a total of 52 MPs.
