Severe Weather Payments
EDM number 509 in 1990-91, proposed by Dawn Primarolo on 20/02/1991.
That this House calls for an immediate return to the arrangements for severe weather payments introduced by the present Right honourable Member for Chesterfield, the then Secretary of State for Energy, in the last Labour Government; notes that this scheme provided for the payment of one-quarter of electricity bills for households on supplementary benefit or family income supplement; notes that over two and three quarter million people benefited from these arrangements, of whom one and a half million were over pensionable age; and regrets that the Prime Minister was misinformed when he told the House that no such arrangements existed under the previous Labour Government.
