Environment And Waste Disposal
EDM number 50 in 1990-91, proposed by Jimmy Wray on 12/11/1990.
That this House is firmly committed to the solution of the present national and international environmental crisis; finds the attitude of some powerful and polluting nations which delay practical measures to implement a concerted world effort to clean air, land and water and to prevent the further effects of global warming, irresponsible and tantamount to an act of aggression against present and future generations; is hopeful that the campaign of environmental organisations finds echo amongst increasing groups of scientists and business as well as in governments; congratulates the University of Ulster and Doctor Les Gornall's research and action for not only solving the problem of waste disposal but for using waste to produce cheap energy; believes that the action of cleaning this enviromental problem by burning methane gas with a use of up to 90 per cent. of its heat, as compared to only 60 per cent. of other fuels, and of solving, by this method, up to 80 per cent. of the sewage problem, should attract the support of both central and local governments; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to encourage and fund specific projects of this nature in the United Kingdom.
