Inquiry Into The Closure Of Ainslie Park High School
EDM number 481 in 1990-91, proposed by Ron Brown on 14/02/1991.
That this House, welcoming Labour's Save Our Schools campaign, rejects moves to close Ainslie Park High School, an excellent community comprehensive serving Leith and North Edinburgh; notes that in a secret deal between local authority officials and World Markets, a finance house specialising in pension funds, it was agreed in 1988 (reference: report 88/265) that land belonging to Telford College, Edinburgh, should be sold to the company to extend its world headquarters in the city, and, in accordance with the deal, this loss of space for expansion by the college would be compensated by the use of Ainslie Park's premises; realises this sordid affair has generated anger in an important working class area; and calls on the Labour and trade union movement to conduct an inquiry and report its findings to local people at public forums.
This motion has been signed by a total of 52 MPs.
