The Future Of Welsh Housing
EDM number 478 in 1990-91, proposed by Paul Murphy on 14/02/1991.
That this House condemns the recent statements by the Parliamentary Under Secretary for Wales, the honourable Member for Pembroke, regarding the future of housing in the Principality; notes that he has said that there is no role for Welsh local authorities to play in the provision of social housing; congratulates Welsh district councils for the marvellous job they have done over the years in providing housing for the Welsh people; and regrets that there are at least 10,000 people homeless in Wales and a further 70,000 on housing waiting lists, largely as a consequence of Government policies and the Welsh Office's reluctance to provide Welsh local authorities with adequate resources to deal with the housing crisis.
