Water Rates
EDM number 470 in 1990-91, proposed by Mildred Gordon on 13/02/1991.
That this House, concerned at the news that London Water rates are to rise by 14.2 per cent. from next April and that Thames Water's future plans include the installation of water meters, feels that householders cannot be expected to pay even higher rates for poorer quality water plus the eventual cost of installing meters and the cost of renewing London's ancient supply lines; and seeks an assurance from the Government that Thames Water will not be allowed to disconnect households which are late in paying or unable to pay the whole of their bills.
