Inflation And The Price Of Water
EDM number 439 in 1990-91, proposed by Peter Hardy on 07/02/1991.
That this House notes with concern that, whilst the Severn-Trent Water Company has proclaimed that the price of water next year will rise by 5 pence per day, the fact is that the increase for both domestic and business consumers will be 15.2 per cent. and this highly inflationary imposition will bear harshly upon the rapidly growing number of people who face financial hardship and the increasing number of businesses which face the severe effects of recession for which Her Majesty's Government must bear grave responsibility; further notes that the increase appears to be entirely in line with the Government's policy and arrangements; and calls for immediate action to be taken in order to limit this large and unhelpful increase on the inescapable costs of living even if it means a reduction in the profit which this privatised company might wish to make.
