Westminster Council And The Welsh Pound
EDM number 437 in 1990-91, proposed by Alan Williams on 07/02/1991.
That this House notes that when a motorist from Swansea parked at Waterloo Place, Westminster, on 9th October 1990, although the pay and display machines rejected ú1 coins, his car was wheel-clamped; notes with fascination the letter from Mr RW Phillips, Managing Director of the City of Westminster, dated 22nd January 1991, that the problem was caused by the 'unusual occurrence of our meters not accepting Welsh pound coins due to their different metallic content compared to English coins', a contention greeted with hilarity by a spokesman at the Royal Mint; but asks what right this House has to expect anything better from a Conservative Council that would have given six cemeteries and 10p change for a Welsh pound coin.
This motion has been signed by a total of 51 MPs.
