Charges For Television Listings
EDM number 430 in 1990-91, proposed by Bob Cryer on 06/02/1991.
That this House expresses grave concern that I.T.V. and BBC are proposing to use the Broadcasting Act for revenue purposes behind the relevant section of the Act and believes that most provincial newspapers and at least one national daily will be severely handicapped by the severity of the proposed charges; urges the two broadcasting bodies to modify or abandon their proposals so that local newspapers such as the Bradford Telegraph and Argus, Bradford Star, Shipley Target, Halifax Courier and a host of similar newspapers can continue to provide their valuable range of news and information to readers without a background of additional charges compounding the difficulties created by the present recession.
