Concessionary Coal For Widows
EDM number 412 in 1990-91, proposed by Gareth Wardell on 05/02/1991.
That this House condemns the Government's decision that if a miner's widow accepts a one-off payment from British Coal to buy out the widows' entitlement to concessionary coal or payments in lieu of same, then the widow will be deemed to have voluntarily deprived herself of income for benefit assessment purposes; regrets that British Coal has not sufficiently considered the implications of their offer to widows; and calls on British Coal to withdraw its scheme.
