Escaped Prisoners

That this House notes with incredulity the Written Parliamentary Answer on 14th December 1990, Official Report, column 520-21 from the Home Office that while 311 inmates absconded from open prisons between June and December 1988 and a further 682 inmates absconded during 1989 'the information requested about recapture... could be provided only a disproportionate cost'; is surprised that the Home Office keeps figures of escapes but does not see it necessary to keep track of how many are recaptured; and asks if the Home Office has something to hide.
