Detention Of Palestinians

EDM number 387 in 1990-91, proposed by David Steel on 30/01/1991.

That this House condemns the administrative detention of Professor Sari Nusseibeh, of the Chair of Philosophy at Bir Zeit University, whose wife is British, on the alleged grounds that he has been passing information to Iraq on the landing of Scud missiles; notes that he has been under imposed curfew since the start of the war and that he lives nowhere near Tel Aviv; and believes that persecution of such moderate Palestinian intellectuals bodes ill for future peace between Israel and her neighbours.
