That this House notes the appointment of Neil Clarke as Chairman of British Coal at a salary of ú225,000 a year, an increase of ú70,000 over that of the outgoing Chairman; contrasts the generosity of British Coal towards its Chairman with its unprecedented meanness towards its workforce; calls on the new Chairman to open a new chapter of industrial relations within the coal industry, and in particular, to resume regular contact with the National Union of Mineworkers.
