Reduction In Child Support For War Widows
EDM number 382 in 1990-91, proposed by Paul Flynn on 30/01/1991.
That this House notes that the combined value of child benefit and children's allowance payable for the child of a war widow has fallen in real terms from ú29.07 in 1979 to ú20.65 in 1990, from 12.3 per cent. of average weekly earnings to 7 per cent.; further notes that war widows will this year be denied the value of the extra ú1 of child benefit for the first born child by clawback of other benefits; and calls on the Government to restore fully the value of overall child support to war widows.
