Allerdale Timeshare (No 8)

EDM number 306 in 1990-91, proposed by DN Campbell-Savours on 16/01/1991.

That this House notes that in December the honourable Member for Workington met Mr Tony Perry, Allerdale's Chief Executive, for discussions lasting nearly six hours; notes that at the last meeting it was agreed that Mr Perry would examine the Council's records relating to 1985 and answer 14 questions the honourable Member had asked relating to the original decision to proceed with the timeshare project; notes that Mr Tony Perry agreed to answer these questions by the week ended 13th January thereby enabling the honourable Member to respond to a request from Conservative and Labour councillors for a meeting; notes that Mr Tony Perry telephoned the honourable Member for Workington on Monday 14th January to inform him that he needed a further 16 days to complete his search of files and answer questions; further notes that Mr Perry announced that he had decided to refer the matter to the council's recently-appointed monitoring officer and that the monitoring officer would not only examine the files of the Council, as had been agreed with the honourable Member, but would also want to produce a report for councillors; notes that this whole exercise is a deliberate attempt by Mr Tony Perry to pre-empt the findings of any councillor-held enquiry that may be needed; and furthermore notes that the monitoring officer is none other than the secretary to the timeshare company and may well be the person who Credit Suisse will name in any action they may bring against the council for the return of their moneys.
