Drink Driving (No. 2)

EDM number 219 in 1990-91, proposed by Peter Bottomley on 11/12/1990.

That this House, remembering that even in New South Wales where random breath testing is at a level equivalent to 24 million tests a year in the United Kingdom three quarters of those arrested are caught in targeted testing, believes that both the deterrence and detection of drink driving would be improved if more police services routinely tested all drivers in crashes, more drivers stopped for moving traffic offences and other drivers giving reasonable cause to suspect they have consumed alcohol; and invites chief constables to consider the practice in their own force.
